Drawn from the folklore of Chile's Atacama Desert, the Alicanto is a mythical bird said to feed on gold and silver, its wings glowing with the metal it has eaten. Miners believed that following it unseen would lead to hidden riches. The Perth Mint brings the legend to life in this strictly limited 2oz collector coin. Struck in 99.99% pure silver with an antiqued finish, the reverse shows the Alicanto in colour against a desert and mountain backdrop, its head, wings and tail tinged with gold. Set into the coin is a clear dome holding genuine gold and silver particles suspended in liquid, which shimmer as the coin moves. The design also carries the P125 mintmark for the Perth Mint's 125th anniversary. The obverse bears the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III with the weight, purity, denomination and year. The coin comes in its original Perth Mint illustrated display case with a keyhole viewing window, together with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
